Our Range of Activities

Includes but is not limited to…

School Visits

We have trusted partnerships with a range of schools around Port Villa. Our visits usually include a presentation of gifts to assist with the education of the local children, visiting a classroom or two, singing a few worship songs together in Bislama (that we have prepared earlier), leading the local students in a small-group, faith-based activity, as well as spending time playing. Visiting students reflect on the privilege and opportunities they enjoy in Australia, and how they might be able to make a difference to others.

Loaves and Fishes School Visits 2

Hideaway Island

Just a short drive and boat ride away from our campsite lies this beautiful, tourist hot-spot. Accompanied by our dedicated team, students and their teachers can relax on beach chairs, explore the rocky shore, buy refreshing drinks and take-away snacks from the vendors on site and get changed into their swimmers for a spectacular snorkelling experience. The reef, which lies only meters from the edge of the island, is overflowing with a brilliant variety of tropical fish, coral, starfish and more.

Local Villages

We have built trusted relationships with a number of local village leaders. With their support, and the guidance of our own Ni-Vanuatu team, our students can visit a range of villages, from the traditional – where they will learn about local Kustom and history – to everyday communities of the local Ni-Vanuatu people – where students will gain life-changing insights into the real challenges faced by the average modern family living in Efate, Vanuatu today.

Turtle Sanctuary

Students will learn how this organisation provides vital support to endangered turtles through their breeding and release program. Students will have the opportunity to handle baby turtles, as well as getting to see a variety of other local creatures too.

Blue Lagoon

A trip to Blue Lagoon is always a highlight for our visiting groups. Just 40 minutes from our campsite, this natural wonder and popular tourist destination is known for its stunning turquoise waters fed by underground springs. Here students can relax, swim, snorkel or, for those feeling adventurous, they can try out the exhilarating ride that is the rope swing.

The Local Church

Attendance at church holds significant cultural importance in Vanuatu. On Sundays, our visiting groups receive a gracious reception at the Pango Presbyterian Church, where they have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the multicultural tapestry of Christianity. Here, students witness firsthand the pivotal role of the local church in fostering unity and extending service to the community, enriching their understanding of religious diversity and community engagement.

Paddleboarding

Located a brief distance from our site, our visiting groups are afforded the opportunity to embark on an enriching paddleboarding excursion to explore the scenic wonders of Erakor Lagoon. This immersive experience assures both enjoyment and excitement for participants of all levels. Students quickly learn to adeptly navigate the tranquil waters, mastering the art of gliding with ease while admiring the stunning natural vistas. And, if they’re lucky, they might just spot a Dugong or two as well!

Daily Devotionals

Each morning, our local Ni-Vanuatu team facilitates dedicated sessions for our visiting groups focused on key biblical passages. Encouraging active participation, students are prompted to engage in insightful discussions, contemplating avenues through which a deepening of their own relationship with God could yield positive influences within their personal lives and broader spheres of influence. Detached from the confines of their usual routines at home, these daily devotional sessions offer a tangible platform for individual spiritual development.

Port Vila Markets

Located a brief distance from our site, the Port Vila Markets offer an engaging experience for our visiting groups. Following lunch at The Mama Market, students and teachers alike can indulge in an exploration of local shops, seeking out gifts, souvenirs, and snacks. Alternatively, they may opt to unwind at a nearby café, all while immersing themselves in the vibrant coastal backdrop.

Kustom Cooking and Weaving

We take pride in fostering partnerships with various esteemed local Mamas, revered as knowledgeable female leaders, who graciously impart their expertise at our Pango campsite. Guided by these exceptional women, visiting groups engage in practical lessons on local Kustom. Within our bush kitchen facilities, students partake in the preparation of LapLap, Vanuatu’s esteemed national dish. They can also learn how to weave and create traditional textiles with local materials, enriching their cultural understanding and practical skills.

Local Beaches

At our Pango campsite, we are privileged to enjoy the proximity of not one, but two picturesque beaches. These coastal treasures offer students and their teachers a range of recreational opportunities following the day’s activities, including swimming, snorkelling and fishing.
